Osteopaths at HealthState start at 6am at most locations and finish around 6pm so there is always a time available for you when you need it most. Occasionally our Osteopaths can visit your home or hotel or venue but this is charged at a higher rate of $300 call out fee. Call outs are usually for international or interstate guests that are only in Perth for a short period and require private visits. Please ask reception for more information.

Osteopaths, Physiotherapists and Chiropractors are all allied health practitioners. The key differences is that Osteopaths assess the entire body as a whole and holistically align the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems for a complete balance.

Physiotherapists focus on the recovery and rehabilitation and usually are found in the hospital environment and private practice with exercise focused treatment.

Chiropractic primarily focus on the skeletal system and spine.

It’s important that you feel comfortable, so wear a loose shirt or T/shirt, and loose pants or shorts, or bring loose clothes with you to change into at the appointment.

Although there are not many conditions that require diagnostic imaging before a first appointment, if you have any X-rays, scans, diagnostic imaging, test results or reports for your injury or condition, bring them along.

An Osteopath will need to record your medical history to assist in making a diagnosis and discussing your treatment options. This may involve completing a survey or questionnaire.

Under the law, an Osteopath needs to obtain your approval to treat you, so you may be asked to sign an ‘informed consent’ form. The Osteopath will also discuss consent and any limitations to your consent on each occasion they provide an assessment to or treat you, in case your circumstances and health information change between visits.

At HealthState we do not require you to remove your clothes. If the area of your body that requires treating is in a sensitive area your Osteopath may ask you to remove your belt or other clothing and you will be covered with a towel for modesty. We suggest you wear modest underwear or gym wear, so you are comfortable.

Usually the answer is yes, you can have someone present throughout your consultation and treatment. However during times of pandemics and social distancing unfortunately this is not possible. The exemption to this rule is if a baby or young child or is being treated, the parent or guardian will be required to stay in the room during treatment. Teenagers are also requested to have a parent or guardian present in a consultation.

This depends on your condition. Long term or chronic conditions may require more clinical management than acute or short term conditions. Your Osteopath will discuss this with you, based on your individual needs.

In general, you may feel some change or complete resolve within 2-3 treatments. HealthState recommends after you are pain free you maintain your body with a general tune up treatment every 4-6 weeks.
